Score 700+ in GMAT: Do you have it in you?

Is it really tough getting 700+ in GMAT?

Before you being, this is probably one question you need to ask. Is it actually that tough to get 700+? Well the answer to that is: if you manage to get 700+ in GMAT, you stand in to top 10% of all the students who have given GMAT over time. This in fact can also be deduced as: out of every 100 people who write GMAT, you need to be in the top 10 to get a score of above 700.

Now it depends on how to interpret this data. Optimists can always argue that 10% is a good margin and is certainly achievable. Pessimists on the other hand can consider it next to impossible task. However, what we have seen is that getting 700+ is certainly an achievable target and every single aspirant who is a little serious and methodical in his approach can favourably achieve such a high score.

It depends heavily on the first few steps you take when you start your GMAT preparation. The most important step among these first steps is of course self assessment.

How do I know if I have it in me?

Another important answer, you will be better of knowing. If this step is taken up carefully and exhaustively, there is a great chance you can get yourself a score you truly deserve. Of course much of it is also a function of you aptitude and preparation levels.

Self assessment: Give yourself GMAT assessment tests, available for free at several sites, a list of will be given in the next post. It is clearly very important that you take several assessments of yourself, unless you are completely confident that the test scores are quite accurate representation of your abilities.

We suggest you give yourself this GMAT Assessment test, to get an accurate indication of your potential GMAT score and your current preparedness level. Click ->  FREE Gmat Practice tests to give yourself an assessment tests NOW!

Once you are through with this step, you will be clear in your head what score to target and how much to prepare. Usually with meticulous planning, preparation and apt guidance, you can give yourself a boost of between 50 -100 over the score you achieve during assessment tests.

Here again you are faced with two different scenarios:
  1. Do you need a great push and a much greater improvement over you current score?
  2. Do you just need a carefully planned GMAT practice schedule to get yourself the target score?

One of the most effective ways of giving yourself the right kind of preparation is giving GMAT Practice Tests. Some of the companies provide GMAT Simulated tests to give you a feel of the REAL GMAT exam and get yourself the most accurate scores.

Practice, Practice and more practice....

There are several companies which provide you with GMAT practice tests, which claim to be the most accurate, the best in their class, computer adaptive etc., etc. So how do you get yourself to choose the one which is right for you. Well here is what you should consider:

  • Are these tests Computer Adaptive like the actual GMAT

High Score on your GMAT? How difficult is it to achieve?

There are basically three important parts to GMAT Preparation: Learning concepts, Strategising and Practicing.

Hot Tip: The best way to begin the GMAT study plan is to first give yourself an “Initial Assessment Test.” This is meant to give you a clearer understanding of your current potential and also point out potential improvement areas to work on. GMATLive provides FREE Practice Tests for the very same purpose.

Once your initial assessment is derived, it is time now to set yourself a target score which is achievable and realistic. GMATLive suggests that an improvement of around 10-20 percent on your initial assessment score is achievable. GMATLive in fact assures all the candidates signed up for GMATLive Interactive course, a major improvement from their current levels.

Learn Concepts:
The best way to learning is to have somebody show you what the test is like, what to look out for, what to study, how the test works, etc. A good teacher with lots of experience teaching can help you do this.

However, for various reasons, many students decide to study on their own. For many students, a good book is enough to help them understand the test. For these people, choosing a good book is really important. A good book will lead you very carefully through every step and show you the pitfalls of the test. A good book will not teach you things that will not be on the test. A good book will explain things in a way that is easy to understand and remember.

If you are looking for classroom courses, be ready to shell out 1000$ or more for a good full-time course but in case you are looking for an equally good and effective course which is easy on your pocket, choose from several Online GMAT Courses available. GMATLive’s Interactive package is the most cost effective solution available in the market presently.

To Summarize: Know the Concepts:

  • Get yourself a good book/good instructor
  • Don’t ignore or leave any particular concept: it might turn fatal
  • Choose an online course or a classroom course if cost is not an issue
  • Interact and discuss with other aspirants
  • Teach one another : To teach someone a concept, means you must know it 10 times better in order to explain such things to someone else

Practice: This part is extremely important--you need to get used to taking the test under real test conditions. Sometimes you might find that there is some part of the test that you do not know about or some other strange thing that you have not seen before, for example, the combination of a hard word and a complex grammatical structure might result in an unanswerable question. You need to know this! The only way to practice is to use official materials--no company can produce questions like those that ETS produces. ETS spends millions of dollars on making their test questions perfect. In short, the best practice materials are those released by ETS.

Therefore GMATLive has produced several practice tests based on the format and question types from ETS’ study material. For all practice tests, GMATLive practice test material is a very good and cost effective.
